Darkness into Light comes to Tarbert For the Very First Time

493

Following the success of Darkness into Light in Ireland and around the world in previous years, we are delighted to host the Darkness into Light walk in our community here in Tarbert for the very first time on Saturday 7th May 2022. The symbolism of commencing in darkness and walking into the light gives the occasion its impact, bringing the community together to support those who have been bereaved by suicides, who have self-harmed or who have experienced suicidal ideation. This event enables us to deliver a potent message of hope to all.

The Tarbert Darkness into Light Committee is hosting the event with the support of Kerry Co. Co, An Garda Síochána, and many more local organisations and businesses. In addition the Tarbert Comprehensive & Primary Schools, teachers and students, are playing a major role in the event. At 4.15am, the walk begins at the Tarbert Comprehensive School, continues on to Tarbert Island, returning in the early dawn to the school where some light refreshment await.

We are planning for approximately 1500 participants and will asking those who will be driving to the event to use the parking facilities provided. We will be encouraging participants to carpool where possible and expect the event to be finished by 7am.

Registrations and donations can be done safely and securely via:
https://www.darknessintolight.ie

Our pop up information booth, at the Community Centre, will remain open from 10am to 10pm on Friday 6th May to handle any queries or last minute registrations.

Our route includes the iconic island road to the Tarbert Ferry Port and back, taking you through that beautiful vista between the majestic Tarbert Bay/ Shannon Estuary and the natural woodlands of the Leslie estate to the most majestic dawn chorus of choir song imaginable – and did I mention the hospitality of the local community thrown in for good measure!

The Committee would also like to invite everybody in our area to join with us in putting on a light in your window (a bit like the Christmas Eve tradition) as a sign of your support.

Many thanks in advance: Paddy Creedon Chairperson (087 2532011) & Marie Mulvihill Media Liaison (087 4155212)
