Finuge / St. Senans Ladies are Munster Champions

Finuge/St Senans Junior Ladies are in the Munster Junior Club Championship Final after defeating St Brigid’s of Limerick in the semi final recently.

St Brigids opened the scoring with a point from a free. With just 8 minutes gone Emma McCarthy and Kate Buckley paired up to score a great goal. Three minutes later Emma McCarthy struck the net with some great ball work from Caoimhe Shanahan and Kate Buckley. St Brigids responded with a point. Two minutes later McCarthy struck the net again assisted by Niamh McKenna. Jackie Horgan scored a point from a free and one minute later Jackie blasted the net after some great passing by Niamh McKenna and Miriam O Keeffe. St Brigids got three points in quick succession. Miriam O Keeffe replied with a lovely long range point. St Brigid’s then got the next two points. Finuge St Senans scored two points before half time from the boots of Niamh Mckenna and Emma McCarthy. Huge credit to our backs who were playing great football. Patrice Diggin, Ann-Marie Leen and Niamh Leen playing extremely well. Half time score Finuge/St Senans 4-4 to St Brigids 0-7.
The second half started well for Finuge/St. Senans LFC with Miriam O Keeffe scoring three points to St Brigids one. Niamh Carmody scored a lovely point after a lot of hard work out the field by Sara Murphy, Karen Stack and Catriona Dillon. St Brigids didn’t give up and got 1-1 for their efforts. Katie Quilter had a great game in goals with great accuracy in her kickouts. Niamh Mckenna who was covering a lot of ground put over a lovely point. Aoife Behan, Niamh Carmody and Jackie Horgan were working very hard and this led to Kate Buckley getting on the ball and preforming a great solo run, beating the defense and the goalie with a fantastic shot. This was followed by 2 great points from Emma McCarthy. Finuge/St Senans introduced substitutions including Olivia Stack, Marion Lyne, Amy Cullen, Martina Guiney and Deirdre Hunt who all contributed to the game. Finuge/St Senans finished out the game with points from Niamh Carmody and Miriam O Keeffe.
Final score Finuge/St.Senans LFC 5-13 St Brigids (Limerick) 1-10. Well done to the players and management Johnny Horgan, Tim Kennelly and Katherine O Callaghan.

The Munster Final game is on this Saturday (Oct. 21st.) in Mallow where the girls take on a strong Aghada (Cork) team and the kick off is at 12.30pm. All support most welcome.
