12 Year-Old Danny Lawlor Returns with Seasonal Sequel to Debut Book

201

Twelve-year-old Danny Lawlor became one of Kerry’s youngest literary sensations last year with the publication of his spooky adventure epic, Night of the Full Moon. Not one to rest on his laurels, Danny was back this month with a sequel that takes all the classic Christmas tropes and turns them on their head.

Kerry Writers’ Museum, nestled in the heart of Listowel square, was once again the setting for Danny’s book launch, attended by family, friends, and more than a few curious locals. Just like last year, it was another fun and whimsical affair, with crisps, soda and cupcakes served.

Just as his first book showcased the young virtuoso’s varied creative talents, Christmas Comeback is both written and illustrated by Danny, and fans of his first adventure story will find plenty to love in it. Best friends Holly, Kate and Sarah are enjoying a sleepover party when a mysterious fairy named ‘The Guardian of the Gumdrops’ appears with a warning of impending doom. Thus begins the adventure of a lifetime, as the three friends journey to a distant universe populated with spruce forests and strange gingerbread houses, but under the scourge of the villainous ‘King Cookie’.

Danny received the literary seal of approval from much-loved journalist, novelist and broadcaster Billy Keane, who officially launched Christmas Comeback at the Museum. Having written two well-received novels, The Last of the Heroes and The Ballad of Mo and G, Billy certainly had buckets of wisdom and advice to share and praised Danny for publishing his second book. He was also praised by his teacher and principal from Coolard National School, where Danny is a 6th Class student.

At the launch Danny expressed gratitude to his art mentor, Louise Lynch, whose free ‘Fighting Words’ workshop inspired him to write both his books. Danny also thanked the publishing and design team at JM Agency, a Kerry-based business run by Jeremy Murphy, who have helped numerous local authors, including Danny, bring their publications to life. Special thanks were reserved for his mom, Marguerite, dad, Dermot, sister Hannah, and extended family for believing in his creative talents and helping foster his love of art and writing.
The book is currently available in local bookshops in Kerry and online.
