Farewell to our President and friend Jerry Brosnan
On Wednesday last the news quickly spread throughout North Kerry and beyond of the passing of the late Jerry Brosnan. Jerry Brosnan was born in the middle of Moyvane Village, looking out over the fields that are now known as Con Brosnan Park, Moyvane. Jerry was the son of Kerry great Con and a brother to Mick and Jim Brosnan R.I.P, Jerry may not have had the honour of donning the green and gold on the field, but he more than made up for in his love of all things GAA. Gerry once told me on a cold winter night in Brosnans Bar Moyvane,” that you see really Mairead, I wasn’t that great a footballer even though my father would make me kick the ball off the back wall for hours with both legs, but the brothers were away better”. Well that didn’t stop Jerry Brosnan making his own mark on Kerry and Moyvane Football. Jerry would be the first person gracing the pitch once a match was on, from under 8’s to Seniors, it didn’t matter Jerry was there to survey who had any potential.
And as for Kerry I don’t think the Kerry Supporter’s bus would have functioned in the same way without Jerry on it. Jerry would travel the length and breadth of the country supporting the Green and Gold. In later years his daughters would accompany him. On one of those occasions Jerry travelled to a league game against Antrim where Moyvane player Paddy Curtin RIP played corner forward for Kerry. That day Jerry was bursting with pride as if Paddy was his own.
Jerry was as equally proud of the fact that he had a hat trick of GAA Presidencies. His honours were as follows: President of Moyvane, President of North Kerry Football Board and President of Kerry Supporters. This sums up Jerry’s love, passion and dedication of all things GAA.
But for all his love for Kerry GAA, his heart was always with his club Moyvane where like only Jerry could do, we often got a version of his beloved song “Up The Boro”. From us all in the North Kerry Football Board we extend our sympathies to his wife Nodie, son Mike and daughters Brenda, Geraldine, Kay and Aileen, Daughter in law Breda, Sons in law Tom, John, David and Aiden, 14 grandchildren, nieces and nephews friends and extended family
We say farewell to our President Gerry Brosnan, the Boro won’t be the same without you.

McCarthy Insurance Listowel – Senior Leagues 2018
Division 1A – St Senans 3.07 v Beale 1.07
Senans entertained Beale in a breezy Mountcoal, Senans attacked from the throw in but failed to score, from Beale’s first attack Danny Quilter was called on to make a fantastic save and the opening score came after four minutes from a Beale free. Beale then rattled the Senans net with a quickly taken free and Sean O’Connell registered Senans first point from a free. Beale converted five further frees and Senans added three points for a halftime score of 1-06 to 0-04. In the opening minutes of the second half Beale scored a point and Senans replied with points from a 45 and a free, then David Foran hit the Beale net leaving Senans trailing by a point mid-way through second half. Two further goals from David Behan and Eoin O’Connell gave Senans a comfortable lead but Beale continued to attack with Danny Quilter making some super saves in the dying minutes.
Division 1B – Listowel Emmets 1.10 v Finuge 1.10
On a bitterly cold evening, Emmets and Finuge shared the spoils after a physical but sporting game of football in Frank Sheehy Park. The visitors started brightly kicking the first score of the game before wing forward Jack Wall got Emmets on the board as both sides proceeded to exchange scores all the way up to the half-time whistle, with David Keane, Tom McCarthy and a second point from Jack Wall keeping the home side in touch. Ger Lovett and Pat Corridan were showing well for Finuge and a Gary Hogan goal ensured a three point lead for them at half time. The second half was all about Finuge as they pulled away into a 6 point lead before the Emmets sideline made some important changes introducing the likes of Conor Cox and Cormac Mulvihill who pulled their team back in to the game. As we approached the full time whistle it was the aforementioned Cox that rescued the game for Listowel with a well taken goal in what was a replay of what happened last week against Desmonds. Emmets will be happy with how they fought back having being so far behind and this bodes well for the lads as they lined out with a young and somewhat inexperienced team. Final score in Listowel, Emmets 1-10 Finuge 1-10

Kerry Team
It all started very brightly this year in the Allianz Football Leagues for what is a very young Kerry team, with wins over Donegal and Mayo in the first two rounds. But the third round game an away game to Monaghan was called off due to unplayable pitch on the first day and the second day Monaghan took maximum points. On Sunday last a home game played in Austin Stack Park seen the Kerry train come off the rails for the second week with Galway opening up the defence easily on several occasions only for goalkeeper Brendan Kealy to pull off at least two point blank saves to keep the scoreboard looking somewhat respectable at the end. If Kerry are to reach an Allianz League Final for 2018 maximum points are need in the last three games. This will be no easy task as next Saturday night when the Kingdom take on Dublin in Croke Park. From the North Kerry Football Board that played last Sunday were Shane Enright Tarbert, Jason Foley and Brain O Seanachain Ballydonoghue.
