Coláiste na Ríochta marked a vibrant fortnight of wellbeing from February 23rd to March 6th, with students and staff taking part in workshops, walks, and student‑led activities promoting positive mental, physical, and emotional health.
The initiative began with wellbeing workshops for all year groups, along with daily mindfulness meditation. The school was privileged to host guest speaker Mairead Moriarty who delved into the essence of wellbeing. These discussions were highly valued by both students and staff, leaving a lasting impression.
Students also enjoyed wellbeing walks through Listowel Town Park, the Garden of Europe, and riverside routes, encouraging reflection and connection in the fresh air.
In the second week, the Student Council led a series of uplifting events. Monday featured mindful colouring, giving students a peaceful creative break. On Tuesday, Leaving Certificate students were treated to a complimentary breakfast, followed by a school-wide positive compliment activity. Wednesday brought a short online wellbeing quiz, while Thursday focused on gratitude, finishing with lively lunchtime karaoke.
The celebrations concluded on Friday with music and singing, including performances from TY students Layla and Izzie, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere to close the wellbeing fortnight.
The two-week programme highlighted the school’s strong sense of community and its commitment to promoting kindness, connection, and overall wellbeing among students. Mary Dowling Well-Being Co-ordinator said “The wellbeing fortnight was a wonderful celebration of positivity and community spirit. It was uplifting to see students supporting one another, embracing mindfulness, and taking time to enjoy simple moments of connection”
