In Best-Loved Poems Gabriel Fitzmaurice, ‘the people’s poet’, gathers favourite poems written over a career spanning more than forty years, poems that have touched the minds and hearts of people all over the English-speaking world. Formally assured, he writes with a singer’s ear for rhythm and rhyme. In this collection, Fitzmaurice celebrates love, grief and joy, people and place, faith, family and friends in visionary, durable and deceptively simple poems.

Gabriel Fitzmaurice, born in 1952 in Moyvane, Co Kerry, Ireland, is a retired teacher, principal, poet, broadcaster, writer, translator, singer, and raconteur. Author of over forty books, including poetry collections in English and Irish, as well as children’s verse, he has been compared to Burns for his insight and lyricism. A former chair and literary advisor of Listowel Writers’ Week, he hosts his own show on Kerry Radio and is a committee member of Éigse Michael Hartnett.
