Asdee Community Development Association invites the people of the locality and surrounding communities to the launch of the Asdee Socio-Economic Development Plan (2020-2025).  This will take place in the grounds of Asdee National School at 7pm sharp on Thursday, August 13. Award-winning journalist and broadcaster, Katie Hannon will perform the launch.

Over recent weeks, the Development Association has taken great care to plan the launch in line with public health guidelines, and the Association acknowledges the advice and guidance they have received from the relevant bodies in that regard.

The launch is the culmination of several months of work, during which the people of Asdee came together to agree and document a vision for their community. This vision, which is detailed in the plan, envisages growing the area’s population, improving quality of life, investing in community facilities and amenities and harnessing the area’s natural resources. The plan outlines a number of projects, which local people would like to see rolled out over the next few years. These include the complete redevelopment of the community centre and the provision of walkways to connect various community and natural amenities.

Chairman of Asdee Community Development Association paid tribute to the people of Asdee for their strong community spirit and for their contributions to the development plan. According to John Kennedy, “The plan is underpinned by tremendous community buy-in. People turned out in great numbers to community meetings and we had an overwhelming response to our survey. There are wonderful ideas and projects in this plan, and we will all need to roll-up our sleeves and secure the necessary funding to enable them to come to fruition”.

The planning process was supported by the Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG), on foot of an application submitted from Asdee. Other agencies will be expected to support the community in co-financing and promoting various projects over the lifetime of the plan.

There is excitement and pride in the community that North Kerry native, Katie Hannon, will officiate at the launch. Katie is one of Ireland’s leading investigative journalists. She currently works with RTÉ and is an anchor contributor to current affairs programmes. At present, she is hosting Liveline on RTÉ Radio One.

Copies of the development plan will be delivered to each household after the launch and the plan will be available on the website once launched www.asdeevillage.com
