Tickets have just gone on sale for Christy Moore who will play the Tinteán Theatre in Ballybunion as part of his Summer tour 2018. Thanks to Ballybunion Community Forum Chairman Donal Liston, Christy’s Manager was in the seaside town last week to see the Tinteán facility and was so impressed with the set-up and the great welcome they received by Donal and his team that the concert was confirmed within hours.
However, before Ballybunion can think of the Summer sun, the Theatre will present a night of remembrance and celebration with ‘O Holy Night’ on Wednesday 20th December to coincide with the first anniversary of the untimely death of its founding director and chairman Micheál Carr. Current Chairman of the Board of North Kerry Arts, Cultural & Heritage Society Ltd, a charitable organisation who own the Theatre, brother Bryan said he hoped that this could be an annual celebration of the Arts, Culture and Heritage of Ballybunion.
“Slowly the Theatre is emerging from the shackles of capital debt which smothered any potential for programming or development of the Theatre” said Bryan. “We have still a long way to go and while no Theatre makes any substantial profits; with an amazing team of Volunteers and Directors we are confident that the Theatre’s finest days are ahead of them. Our night on December 20th will feature the best of local performers and groups who are all giving their time and energy free to help support our Development Fund which goes towards maintenance and development works for the building”.
Bryan hoped that the night will be the first small step towards rebuilding the trust and support of the community of Ballybunion and stressed how vital it was that they support this state of the art theatre on their door step to ensure it survives and thrives.
Tickets for both the Christy Moore July date and the December 20th fundraiser are available via www.tintean.ie, from 068 27972 (or from local outlets in Ballybunion).
