“Monday was a very significant day for North Kerry as planning permission was granted for the North Kerry Greenway. The development of the Greenway represents a major boost for tourism and the local economy. It offers a unique means for the tourist to access and enjoy rural Ireland. One of the targets of the National Planning Framework is the reversal of rural decline and the enhancement of the competitiveness of rural areas. It’s great news, coming as it does just a week after councillors in the Tralee Municipal District voted to progress the Tralee-Fenit Greenway. Mondays decision will further cement Kerry’s and indeed North Kerry’s reputation as a destination for walking and cycling.”
“I want to acknowledge the vital support and cooperation of residents and landowners along the route and I can assure those living along the line that there will be continued engagement as the project progresses. I want to really thank the dedicated advocates of the Greenway from Listowel.”
“I also want to acknowledge the work of the staff in the Capital Infrastructure Unit of Kerry County Council along with the local area engineers, the Municipal District Manager who have worked tirelessly to bring it to this stage. I look forward to pursuing the application for funding for the Greenway and meeting Minister Brendan Griffin as soon as possible.”
