says Cardiologist from Mater Private Cork
CARDIOVASCULAR disease remains the number one cause of mortality in Kerry and with the county’s aging population demographic, the incidence of the disease continues to grow, according to Dr Ronan Margey, Consultant Cardiologist at Mater Private Hospital Cork.
Addressing a group of General Practitioners from the Kerry and Cork region at the first in a series of Cardiology Master-Classes in Killarney, Dr Margey said that there is a substantial and growing population of patients living with cardiovascular disease morbidity.
“Despite marvellous improvements in cardiovascular disease mortality over the last 30 years, mostly shaped through improved preventative care at primary care level,
cardiovascular disease remains the number one cause of mortality in Irish Society,” said Dr Margey. The Master Class Sessions over the coming month, led by four interventionists from Mater Private Cork – Dr Ronan Margey, Dr Mahesh Pauriah, Dr Brendan Meany and Dr Abid Hussaini – will cover several themes around structural heart, rhythm management and
coronary artery disease.
The masterclasses will aim to update primary care physicians regarding the latest
developments in cardiovascular science, focusing on diagnosis, prognosis, and the latest in cardiovascular drug therapeutics and interventions.
The consultants will outline to GPs the latest techniques to treat advanced coronary artery disease percutaneously with stenting, as well as the latest additional intervention therapies for structural and valvular heart disease including non-surgical heart valve replacement and repair, and stroke prevention with left atrial appendage closure.
The remaining three Master-Classes in Cardiology, presented by Mater Private Hospital Cork will take place at Randles Hotel, Killarney on March 2nd and 9th at 7pm.
Located at City Gate, Mahon, Mater Private Hospital Cork is equipped with the very latest technology, private en-suite rooms and free parking for patients and visitors.
Over the past 12 months, Mater Private Cork has doubled its capacity, opened a new ward and Emergency Department leading to an increase in staffing levels in a number of medical and administrative areas, while expansion plans are at an advanced stage.
