John B. Keane’s classical masterpiece ‘Sive’ opens at the Gaiety Theatre this January 27th 2023

One of Ireland’s most celebrated plays, John B Keane’s classic masterpiece is a must-see for everyone. Starring Fionnula Flanagan (The Others, The Guard, Waking Ned, Smother), Norma Sheahan (Bridget and Eamon, Moone Boy, Shirley Valentine, The Matchmaker), Sade Malone (Hope Street, Pistol, My Left Nut), Denis Conway (Hangmen, The Lonesome West, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Aisha, Brooklyn), Patrick Ryan (Vikings: Valhalla, Game Of Thrones, Pure Mule), John Rice (professional stage debut), John Olohan (Upcoming Bodkin, They May Face The Rising Sun), Larry Beau (Irish songwriter, whistler and troubadour, collaborates frequently with author Pat McCabe, playwright Philip Doherty, actress Olwen Fouéré) and Steve Wall (The English, The Witcher, Rebellion, Moone Boy).
Set in the 1950’s Ireland, Sive is the story of a young and beautiful orphan. While living with her Aunt and Uncle, a local matchmaker schemes for Sive to marry a much older man. Sive’s resentful and greedy family agree to the arrangement despite Sive being in love with a young man herself. Faced with an unthinkable future, Sive takes back her control in the only way she knows how.

Director Andrew Flynn leads the creative team; he has most recently directed Gaiety Production’s critically acclaimed productions of Martin McDonagh’s Hangmen, The Cripple of Inishmaan, The Lieutenant of Inishmore and The Lonesome West at the Gaiety Theatre.
