Kerry Parents and Friends Association (KPFA) is a voluntary organisation committed to the delivery of life enhancing services and supports, responding to needs, wishes and choices of people with an intellectual disability connected to support networks in their community. KPFA provides Day, Residential, Respite, Home Support and Outreach Services throughout Co Kerry. KPFA is a registered Charity No. 6871. Our Day Service in Listowel supports 65 people, 5 days per week.

A fundraising initiative by the staff of KPFA Listowel to raise funds with a target of €30,000 to put towards the completion of safe, secure and accessible outdoor area on the campus is well underway. “This would not have been possible without the generous support we have received to date from our families, friends,  people of Listowel, and the surrounding areas “ Quote Kathleen Horan Centre Manager.

An Open Day/Garden Party on Sunday 19th May 1pm – 3pm , with a Hawaiian Theme will be a memorable event to bring conclusion to the fundraising. There will be music by The Knotweeds Band, games, refreshments including mocktails, raffles and much more. Additionally to mark National Bike / Social Inclusion week a Trishaw Bike will be on display on the day.

The garden enclosure in Listowel is currently being repurposed to accommodate a very necessary additional space for the people we support to enjoy the great outdoors throughout our varying seasons. While this ambitious project has had an outdoor sensory pod and equipment funded over time, the priority now is to commence phase 3 and 4, which will see the development of landscaping, pathways, the  purchase of seating, a wheelchair swing, and  to produce a finish that is in keeping with Health and Safety Standards including full accessibility. This  outdoor area will operate both as a sensory and therapeutic environment as well as a work space for the people we support. The concept for this space has been designed and  kindly sponsored by Down To Earth Designs www.d2e.ie

Our successful Social Enterprise “Green Thumbs Up”,  (GTU) based on campus will be launched on the day. This enterprise was a successful winner of a national ReThink Ireland competition this year. GTU gardening  workshops facilitated by the people we support are available weekly to the public. Local people have also come to realise the value of this treasured space that we love to share with our community. Kerry Parents and Friends have also developed an exciting new brain Health programme called “Brain Buddies” and this project will be promoted on the day. This programme was another successful venture recognised for its value by ReThink Ireland.

We welcome all support to achieve our aim via donations or the purchase of raffle tickets. Donations can  be made via KPFA website using the donate button.- https://kpfa.ie/donate-to-us/. Tickets for our ultimate prize of a flat packed Beever Log Cabin are available in the CT room/ reception  068 22977 or 087 4012675.
