Listowel Credit Union Ltd., celebrated its 50th Anniversary on Tuesday last March 7th, having survived and experienced many challenges of rapid growth, recessions, austerity legislation and at times restrictive regulation.
We recognise this marvellous achievement, are proud of our past and are extremely grateful to that group of pioneers and individual volunteers who had the vision to set up a Credit Union in Listowel in March 1973.
Their community focused efforts and belief in the Credit Union ethos, supported by members and community has seen our Credit Union grow from very humble beginnings in 1973 with minimal assets of £586.10 (volunteers pooled monies) to assets of €72.4 million as per recent AGM A/C’s, and from 22 members in 1973 to the 16,800 members of today.
The milestone will be formally celebrated at St Marys Church Listowel on Saturday March 11th with the 10.30am dedicated mass to past and present members, staff, Board of Directors and volunteers. Following the mass, the Listowel Arms Hotel will form the backdrop for a number of formal addresses with light bites along with a snapshot of the archives where memorabilia of Listowel Credit Union days gone by will be on display. As current Chairman of the Board of Directors, I would like to extend an invitation to all our former volunteers, staff and directors to join with the current staff and board to our formal celebrations – Leo Daly – Chairperson
