Massive Turn Out for Successful Memory Wellness & Dementia Awareness Evening

Dementia Inclusive Listowel was established in 2023, it is a collaboration between Ard Churam, the HSE, Voluntary and statutory agencies in Listowel, Retail sector, Business Sector, Banking, the Gardai and more. Dementia Inclusive Listowel encourages everyone to share responsibility for ensuring that people with dementia feel understood, valued and able to contribute to their community.

On Thursday, the 16th of May over 180 people attended a Memory Wellness & Dementia Awareness information evening in the Listowel Arms Hotel. Mr. Finbar Mawe, Chairperson of the Fuchsia centre and Ard Churam day care centre opened the evening. The event’s keynote speaker Dr. Antoinette O’Connor, consultant neurologist in Tallaght University Hospital who delivered an insightful presentation followed by questions from the audience.
Dr. Mary Buckley, Geriatrician in UHK chaired the second half of the event by facilitating a discussion from a panel of experts who responded to various synarios from those living with or effected by Dementia.

There was a variety of community supports and information stands on the night including local day centres, community activities and various supports for those living with dementia and their families/carers. The interest in the topic was evident with up to 180 people in attendance on the night.

Dementia Inclusive Listowel will continue to work to raise awareness within the grater Listowel area so look out for future projects in the area.
