Network Ireland Kerry began 2026 with a vibrant opening event, “Mind Matters – Starting the Year with Wellbeing,” hosted in The Rose Hotel, Tralee, and led by new branch president Aisling Foley on January 14th last. The Lee Suite was packed with members and guests, creating an atmosphere of warmth, openness and solidarity as Kerry Mental Health Association was confirmed as the chosen charity for the year.
The evening’s programme blended professional expertise with powerful personal stories to put mental health at the centre of the branch’s agenda for 2026. Aisling Foley addressed the audience with heartfelt thanks for the support in the room, noting how the sense of respect and genuine connection set the tone for the year ahead. She also used the occasion to share her own commitment to the cause, announcing that she will run the New York Half Marathon in aid of Kerry Mental Health Association and inviting attendees and the wider community to contribute through her iDonate fundraising page.
Throughout the night, a diverse panel of speakers explored different dimensions of wellbeing and mental health. Former Kerry captain, educator and long-time fundraiser Liam Hassett brought a deeply personal perspective as he spoke about his years of supporting Kerry Mental Health Association and the crucial assistance the organisation provided to his sister. His contribution highlighted how local services, powered by community fundraising, can transform lives and offer stability and hope to families navigating mental health challenges.
Resilience speaker Sean O’Leary shared the story of the life-altering car crash he experienced five years ago, describing how it reshaped both his physical and mental health. He spoke openly about the long journey through surgeries, rehabilitation and therapy, charting his progress from being wheelchair dependent to returning to sport at a highly competitive level. Sean’s honesty reinforced the message that everyone needs support at different times and that reaching out for help is a strength rather than a weakness.
To finish the evening on an energetic and memorable note, George Bastible of My Fitness Kerry took to the stage to lead a lively, good-humoured workout that had the entire room on their feet.
Looking forward, Network Ireland Kerry will continue this momentum with its next event on 4 February in The Brehon Hotel, Killarney, which will explore AI and how to leverage it effectively in marketing strategies for 2026. Members and guests are invited to attend, deepen their understanding of emerging technologies and build on the strong, supportive community showcased at the Mind Matters launch.
