New Monthly Classes at Teach Siamsa Finuge to Share the Living Traditions of North Kerry
Teach Siamsa Finuge is thrilled to launch a new series of monthly adult classes in traditional music, song, and dance – an exciting step in the ongoing Teach Siamsa Renewal Programme, supported by the Kerry County Council Arts Office. These classes begin on Wednesday, May 8th at 7pm, and promise an engaging and inclusive space to experience and share the cultural heritage of North Kerry.
At the core of the renewal vision at Teach Siamsa is a commitment to preserving and celebrating the folk traditions that have long defined the Finuge area: the distinctive Molyneaux style of North Kerry dance, the dance music tradition of the region, and the song legacy of Sean McCarthy.
Led by a talented and passionate team of tradition bearers:
• Instrumental Music – Sean Abeyta, archivist at Teach Siamsa and master fiddler
• Song – Donal Tydings and Peggy Sweeney, exponents of the North Kerry song tradition
• Dance – Jonathan Kelliher and Joanne Barry, renowned North Kerry dancers
These classes focus on sharing tunes, songs, and steps in a relaxed and supportive environment. They’re ideal for anyone who’s been meaning to return to an instrument, try Irish dancing for the first time, or simply connect with others through the arts.
• Start Date: Wednesday, May 8th at 7pm
• Venue: Teach Siamsa Finuge
• Supported by: Kerry County Council Arts Office
• Cover Charge: €5 per class
