Pupil safety is at the heart of recent improvements to the roads around Gaelscoil Lios Tuathail. The Parents’ Council, responding to concerns about narrow roadways and heavy traffic near the school, raised the issue with Kerry County Council. As a result, the local roads engineer arranged for the repainting of existing warning signs to make them clearer for motorists.
In addition, local councillor Aoife Kennelly has funded the installation of a new flashing school sign. The bright, eye-catching sign is designed to alert drivers that they are approaching a school and to encourage extra caution.
Speaking on behalf of the Parents’ Council, Chairperson Tadhg Beary said:
“The safety of our pupils is our number one priority. These new measures will make a real difference for children walking, cycling, and being dropped off each day. We are very grateful to Councillor Aoife Kennelly for her support and to Kerry County Council for their swift action.”
The Parents’ Council continues to encourage all road users to slow down and be vigilant near the school, especially at busy times.
Seána Ní Chuain, principal of the Gaelscoil, reiterated “The safety of our pupils is always our main concern. It is very encouraging to see the Parents’ Council, Kerry County Council, and our local representatives working together to put these measures in place. The new flashing School Ahead sign is a visible reminder to drivers to slow down and take extra care near our school.”
