Mary Immaculate College Limerick’s Oral History Centre has launched a new oral history project, which is runnning from October to December 2024. The theme of the oral history project is “Wellbeing”. Anyone over 65 years old from North Kerry is encouraged to get involved.
Dr. Sarah O Brien (pictured) is directing this oral history project. “I feel there are unique stories in North Kerry about how people maintained their physical and mental health across the twentieth century. I am really interested in how women and men endured in spite of a lack of health resources, especially when faced with challenges like childbirth, bereavement, sickness etc. But also, this is an opportunity for people from North Kerry to have their own life stories recorded and archived for future generations.”
Being part of the project will entail being interviewed for 30 minutes to one hour. All interviews will be archived in Mary Immaculate College’s oral history centre. At the end of the project there will be an exhibition, where some of the main themes of the oral history project will be shared.
