The much-anticipated reopening of the Community Gym is finally here!
The Board of Management and staff of Knocknagoshel Community Gym are delighted to announce its reopening its doors on Monday 3rd March, which has been temporarily closed due to an unexpected drop in core funding in the final quarter of last year. We are now looking forward to welcoming back our loyal patrons and also ready to receive new customers. We are having an Open Evening today Thursday 27th Feb. (6.30 to 8.30pm). All are welcome.
Our vision is to promote a ‘Community whose members are healthy in mind and body’ and to continue to enhance the quality of life through the delivery of a Community Services Programme (CSP) that provides affordable health & fitness facilities. The operation of the Gym is partially funded by Pobal under its CSP programme. It has provided an important social service since its inception in 2002, within the catchment area from Abbeyfeale to Castleisland.
This rural community Gym just off the N21 is more than just a place to work out, it has been a vital social centre for over 23 years where patrons meet – to quote Ger and Liz who are regular customers: ‘‘We are retired and it’s great for us to mix, meet, socialise with friends in a caring and professional environment where there is always a warm welcome by staff.”
This fully supervised Gym facility has a full range of weights, cardio and strength training machines to ensure a comprehensive workout experience for members of all fitness levels. A regular Gym user is our local Kerry Ladies Football and Basketball Star Lorraine Scanlon who observed: ‘‘Knocknagoshel Gym has been an invaluable support in my training journey over the years. With its welcoming atmosphere, top-notch equipment, and supportive staff, it has been the perfect space to improve and challenge myself. Whether it’s strength training, cardio, or mobility work, the Gym has played a key role in helping me achieve my fitness goals. It’s more than just a Gym – it’s a cornerstone of the community here in Knocknagoshel’’
Opening Hours – The normal opening hours are 9.00am to 12.00pm and 5.00pm to 8,30pm Monday to Friday. As part of a drive to ensure the facility is more sustainable, we are now opening the Gym at 7.00am initially two morning a week Tuesdays and Thursdays to facilitate locals and early morning commuters. With our proximity to the N21, the Gateway to Kerry, this change may provide an opportunity for those on this route to now also avail of our early morning service.
