Listowel locals are asked to come out this Saturday to show they support for a group of Kerry cyclists crossing the country to raise funds for two very worthy causes –  the Irish Cancer Society and the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

In all some 13 cyclists will be arriving at the Arms Hotel in The Square around 4pm this Saturday as part of their cross country cycle, which first started out from Malin Head in Donegal last Wednesday, July 2nd. The cyclists have been crossing the country over five days and hope to finally complete their journey at the Valentia Island Coast Guard Station on July 6th.
As well as acting as a fundraiser for both the Irish Cancer Society and the Kerry Hospice Foundation, the cycle is also honouring the memory of the late Timothy Lyne, who served and volunteered with the Valentia RNLI for 40 years.

The group taking part in the 530-kilometre cycle includes Timothy’s much-loved family, friends, and coast guard colleagues: Joanne Cahill, Noel Curran, Frank Harte, Dermot Kidd, Vincent Kidd, Áine Lyne, Miriam Lyne, John McKeon, Fionán Murphy, Maria O’Connell, Sandra O’Connor, Fiachra Purcell, and James Walsh.
Speaking about their cross country fundraiser, Timothy’s daughter Áine said: “we’re cycling for the many families across Kerry and beyond who are dealing with cancer. Every donation goes directly to the services that made a real difference to dad and his loved ones.”
Timothy’s daughter Miriam adds, “We’re doing this in his (Timothy’s) name, but also for everyone touched by cancer.”

To show support for these two causes, locals in Listowel are being asked to come out and welcome the cyclists when they arrive in The Square this Saturday afternoon at 4pm

All funds raised will go directly to the Irish Cancer Society and the Kerry Hospice Foundation to support their ongoing work with cancer patients and their families.
