The French National Day is the anniversary of Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, a turning point of the French
Revolution, as well as the Fête de la Fédération which celebrated the unity of the French people on 14 July 1790. In glorious sunshine the Listowel members enjoyed a great party with plenty of French wine, on this Sunday evening the 14th July in comradeship with our French Twinning group.

This twinning was initiated in 1988 on the 100th anniversary of the Lartigue Monorailway with the launch of the Lartigue
Monorailway Book by Michael Guerin and subsequent contact by him with the Mayor of Panissieres. The official twinning
charter signing took place in Listowel in 1991 and Panissieres 1992. The Lartigue Monorailway that was built in
Panissieres never went into commercial operation and was seen as a huge scandal.

This Twinning is family orientated Urban and Rural, Listowel members are due to for a return visit to Panissieres next
Summer, we are anxious to have new members. All are welcome, contact any of the members for details
