Saturday evening at Tomáisíns marked a significant milestone for the Ballydonoghue community as the much-loved Parish Magazine celebrated the launch of its 40th edition to a packed and enthusiastic crowd.

For four decades, the Ballydonoghue Parish Magazine has been a cornerstone of the community, weaving together the stories, achievements, and creative expressions of its people. This year’s edition continues the proud tradition of connecting locals and the diaspora, providing a vibrant platform for sharing experiences, memories, and talent.

A Dynamic Evening of Celebration
The launch, expertly MC’d by committee member Colm O’Connor, was a lively affair filled with contributions from Ballydonoghue GAA and great interaction from attendees and participants alike. The evening culminated in a fantastic performance by members of Ballydonoghue Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCE), who closed the celebration in style, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the area.

Special thanks were extended to Tomáisíns for providing the warm and welcoming venue and food, and to Garvey’s SuperValu Listowel for the stunning Celebration Cake that added a sweet touch to the occasion.

A Legacy of Dedication
The magazine’s 40-year journey is a testament to the commitment and creativity of its dynamic committee and the many contributors over the decades. Chairman Jim Finnerty reflected on this legacy, expressing his heartfelt gratitude:
“We are so thankful for the support of the people of Ballydonoghue, both at home and away who continue to contribute to the success of the magazine. The hardworking efforts of all the past committee members have been invaluable. It was a particular honour for us to have the very first editor of the magazine, Sarah Buckley, launch the 40th edition last Saturday night. As she put it herself, the Ballydonoghue Parish Magazine is the heart and soul of the place.”

Fostering Creativity and Tradition
The Ballydonoghue Parish Magazine plays a vital role in fostering creativity and preserving local traditions. School competitions encourage children to explore their talents in writing, art, and storytelling, while adult creative writing contests ensure the community’s rich narrative heritage thrives.
Dedicated sections for the GAA and Comhaltas celebrate the community’s sporting and cultural achievements, serving as valuable records of its vibrant life.

Acknowledgments
The magazine team expressed deep appreciation to the sponsors whose generosity underpins the success of the publication’s competitions and events. Special mention was made of The Kennelly, Nolan, and Harnett families, as well as Lee Strand, Kerry Writers Museum, and St. John’s Theatre for their valued support.

A Global Connection
One of the magazine’s most cherished aspects is its ability to unite the people of Ballydonoghue, no matter where they are in the world. For the diaspora, it offers a lifeline to their heritage, bridging distances with stories and updates that resonate deeply.

Looking Ahead…
As it celebrates its 40th edition, the Ballydonoghue Parish Magazine stands as a testament to the enduring spirit and unity of its people. With the ongoing support of the community, both near and far, it promises to continue being a vibrant thread in the fabric of Ballydonoghue’s identity for years to come.
