Causeway Comprehensive Triumph in Munster Intermediate Camogie

1561

At Lerrig last Saturday 21st January, Causeway Comprehensive School (Kerry) and Kilfinnane Secondary School (Limerick) contested the Munster Intermediate Colleges camogie final in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd in ideal weather conditions.

Causeway got the ideal start with an early pointed free from Aoife O Connor which was quickly followed by a well taken goal by Megan Casey Lawlor. Kilfinnane quickly responded with a point, and the remainder of the first half saw exciting camogie from both teams, with Causeway leading at half time on a scoreline of 3-3 to 0-3. Scores coming from Brid Horan, Clodagh Walsh and Aoife O Connor.

Causeway continued their goal scoring spree in the second half through Megan Casey Lawlor and Brid Horan with the game ending on a scoreline of 6-4 to 0-4 in favour of the Kerry side.  Causeway’s victory was built on a fantastic team effort, with all players demonstrating fantastic skill levels and determination to bring the title to Kerry.

Maggie Lynch, Eilish Harrington and Rachel Burke bolstered the defence while Kate Buckley was a driving force in the mid-field. Caoimhe Shanahan, Brid Horan, Megan Casey Lawlor and Aoife O’ Connor provided the finishing touches in the forward line. The final score line did not reflect the competitive nature of two well prepared camogie teams, and it was Causeway’s clinical finishing that ultimately decided the outcome of the contest.

Thanks to Causeway Comprehensive School team trainers Mr O Halloran and Ms. McGarty, and Kilmoyley Hurling Club for the use of their pitch for the game.
