Mental Health Charity Holds Free ‘Getting to know GROW’ Programme in Listowel

The mental health charity, GROW, will hold a free four-week introductory programme in Listowl next month.

The ‘Getting to Know GROW’ programme commences at 8pm on Wednesday, March
7th in the Seanchaí Centre, Listowel, and will continue for the following three Wednesday nights.

The programme is being run by GROW Area Coordinator, Jerry Cronin, and all are welcome. The new ‘Getting to Know GROW Programme’ will enable people to learn more about GROW and the help and support which it provides.

According to Jerry, many people experiencing mental health difficulties suffer alone and in silence. “GROW has had a presence in this region for 50 years now and it was from here that it spread throughout Ireland. GROW provides a safe, confidential environment where
people can share their experience with others who understand.

“Our groups are anonymous, peer-oriented gatherings of people who support, challenge and help one another along the road to recovery. We follow a 12-step programme where people can benefit from the testimony, wisdom and experience of others. While we follow a
programme, we also enjoy a chat over a cup of tea at every meeting,” emphasises Jerry.

“GROW members also receive leadership training when they feel ready to undertake it and every member is a potential leader. We hold many social events during the year and annual, regional and national conferences.”
