Gortagleanna Remembered 100 Years On

1048

Exactly 100 years later to the minute, family members lay a wreath on the Gortagleanna Monument, Knockanure, North Kerry last week where three members of the North Kerry Flying Column, Paddy Dalton Athea, Paddy Walsh Coolard and Jerry Lyons Duagh were shot dead by a troop of Black and Tans while a fourth member of the Column, Con Dee from Ballyline, Ballylongford made a miraculous escape. The event has been the subject of many stories, poems, songs and a film over the years.

Kerry Writers Museum in Listowel organised a special wreath laying ceremony by family members of those killed at the Gortaglanna Memorial and at each of their graves on Wednesday of last week.
