Congratulations to local AIB Listowel Bank Official, Dymphna O’Brien (front first from left) who lead the AIB Ladies Football team to victory in the GAA Ladies Gaelic Football Interfirm Competition. The AIB ladies beat formidable opposition from the Garda Siochana Ladies football team and were crowned Champions at the LGFA Interfirms blitz held in Naomh Mearnog GAA Club, Portmarnock on 15 July.

Eleven teams participated on the day with nine companies represented. After wins over Arthur Cox, the Irish Prison Services, Accenture, Pramerica and Pallas Foods in the group stages, the AIB ladies faced tough opposition in the cup final against An Garda Síochána with the game ending in a draw (AIB 1-6, An Garda Síochána 0.9). Showing true determination under pressure, AIB Ladies did the jersey proud and emerged as winners after sudden death kicks. Limerick legend Dymphna O’Brien landed the winning point to take the spoils.
LGFA President Marie Hickey presented the trophies and thanked everyone for their involvement on the day. “The day was a huge success and we would like to thank all players, mentors, referees and volunteers for making this happen. We hope we can build on this in the future and look forward to having all teams involved again.”

Local AIB branch Manager, Stephen Stack said “We are all very proud of Dymphna who has had a brilliant sports career and is Limerick’s Gaelic Football sole All Star. She has excelled at Camogie and many other sports and apart from her leading by example,  she is the ultimate team player”!
