Writers’ Week Announce Exciting Line Up

Listowel Writers’ Week have announced full exciting line up for this year’s 46th annual Festival which will take place June Bank Holiday Weekend.
“As ever we are delighted to bring both established and emerging talent to be discovered by all book lovers in the heritage town of Listowel” announced the Festival Chairperson Liz Dunn.

The renowned literature and arts festival will feature, amongst others, the award winning American writer Richard Ford who will open the festival on the 31st May 2017 and also who will give readers and writers alike insight into his latest book Between Them: Remembering My Parents

A plethora of award winning writers will be gracing the Festival with their presence in 2017. Alan Cumming will be travelling from New York for the festival and will talk to Rick O’Shea about his memoirs and essays. Graham Norton returns to the festival with his novel ‘Holding’ and early bird tickets for this event were sold out within a couple of hours. IMPAC winner Akhil Sharma, Granta Editor Sigrid Rausing, Booker nominee David Szalay, BBC’s Fergal Keane and Sophie Hannah have all confirmed their attendance at this year’s festival. Other celebrated names coming to Listowel Writers’ Week include the Festival President Colm Tóibín, Dame Margaret Drabble, MJ Hyland and Donal Ryan.

Costa Short Story Winner Jess Kidd will read with Mike McCormack and debut novelists Alan McMonagle and Lisa Harding will read together and Lisa McInerney will read from her second novel on the Sunday of the  festival. Comedians Helen Lederer and Ian McPherson, who will be facilitating a workshop entitled “How to Write Comedy” will also interview each other during a public event and they promise to deconstruct what makes you laugh.  There are a number of places also available on the Songwriting workshop with John Spillane, Poetry Getting Started with Peter Sirr and Short Fiction with Clare Morgan.

In addition to the main programme of events, The National Children’s Literary Festival will take place at the same time and will feature Holly Webb, Nick Sharratt, Sarah Webb, Oisin McGann, Ryan Tubridy and PJ Lynch.
