Take the Walk of Life for the Credit Union Art Competition

It’s that time of year again, Listowel Credit Union is urging its local community to take the ‘Walk of Life’ for its annual art competition. The ‘Walk of Life’ theme builds on last years’ theme of ‘The Force of Nature’. Entrants this year are being invited to think about how society and communities change, grow and develop for the better.
Irish communities have made many positive changes in recent years to ensure the country is a more inclusive, diverse and liberal place to live in. Participants are encouraged to draw inspiration from the positive changes they might have witnesses in their own local communities or in wider society.

The hugely popular, national art competition is now in its 36th year. Each year almost 30,000 people enter the competition through more than 200 participating credit unions. The competition has no age limits and is open to children aged seven years and under right through to 18 years and over. There is also a category for those with physical or intellectual difficulties.

Encouraging everyone to enter the competition, Ashley FitzGerald of Listowel Credit Union said “Each year we are inundated with fantastic works of art from young and old and we are expecting no different this year. Information packs haven been distributed to over 25 schools and organisations across North Kerry and as always, there will be some great prizes up for grabs. So, I would encourage everyone to spend a little time thinking about what the ‘walk of life’ theme means to them, and how they might like to depict it through art– really the only rules in the competition are set by the artists’ own imagination!”

The annual competition is part of the Irish League of Credit Unions’ (ILCU) commitment to supporting the artistic development of both young and old in communities throughout Ireland.

Entry forms are available from Listowel Credit Union Offices in Listowel and Ballybunion. The closing date to submit finished entries to is Friday October 25th. Winners at local level will go on to a regional level, and regional winners will progress to the national awards ceremony in February 2020.Kerry Writers Museum next Tuesday October 1st at 6:30pm.
